Thames Water is a Care Laver Covenant signatory and offers a package of bespoke support to Care Leavers interested in employment and skills development opportunities within the water sector.
As well as direct employment opportunities, we can also offer apprenticeships, graduate scheme and internship placements, traineeships, and work experience.

Below is a summary of our current activities to support care leavers
Summer internships - offer a bespoke package of support for Care Leavers applying for our paid summer internships (up to 20 interns in total; placements paid at national living wage level; June - August 2022; Thames Valley and London area; placements across different business areas: Operations, Capital delivery, Customer experience, Commercial, Digital. Support during application stage includes 121 guidance.
Thames Water works in close partnership with the Unite Foundation in identifying undergraduate talent for the summer internship programme and Unite will provide accommodation support for students on their scholarship scheme taking up this offer.
Sector - Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) specifically tailored to Care Leavers. Working with the DWP and Swindon College to provide tailored support to a group of Care Leavers to go into Customer Service roles at our Swindon Contact Centre
Apprenticeship opportunities - additional application support for Care Leavers including an opportunity to speak to a member of the team directly during application stage. Guaranteed interview for all Care Leavers meeting basic criteria for the role.
Traineeship - specifically tailored to Care Leavers and focused on gaining the skills needed to do our front-line Technician roles in Operations. London-based and a mix of practical and classroom-based learning.
Graduate placements - Care Leavers applications to our graduate scheme will be offered additional support and guaranteed interview when meeting basic criteria for the role.
